Hamilton Construction Responsive Website
Overview
This is a responsive website designed for a family-owned construction business that provides detailed information and contact information for the business in a well designed and visually appealing platform.
The goal of this website is to help potential clients visualize what Hamilton Construction offers, and an efficient way to get in contact with them.
My Role: Solo designer through end-to-end process: discovery, design, usability, testing and prototyping.
Year: 2022
THE CHALLENGE
To create a visually appealing and user-friendly responsive web design that will help create a stronger connection with clients and reach a larger clientele.
In a tech-heavy world, having a website is important for creating a connection with users and building confidence for potential clients. A successful website can give insight into the companies’ values, process, and previous success.
USER RESEARCH
UNDERSTANDING THE USER
For my preliminary research, I interviewed 10 of the businesses’ previous clients about their experience with Hamilton Construction. I gathered their pain points and sat down with Hamilton Construction to talk about their goals.
KEY INSIGHTS
I conducted a study of previous clients and found three common pain points that needed to be addressed. I then created a chart with ideas on how to solve them. This helped me visualize how all of my ideas will work together moving forward. Next, I then created wireframes and low-fidelity mockups to help visualize the layout.
WIREFRAMING & LOW-FIDELITY PROTOTYPING
This is when I brought all of my research and solutions together visually. In these iterations, I assembled my ideas to see how they will work together as an overall experience.
LOW-FIDELITY TO HIGH-FIDELITY
After I created my low-fidelity mockups, I began to transform them into High-Fidelity mockups. A key component of these is making sure accessibility and usability are of utmost importance.
HIGH-FIDELITY MOCKUPS & PROTOTYPE
After refining my solutions through usability testing I ended up with these high-fidelity mockups and my final prototype.
TAKEAWAYS
This was my first project for a real client. I really had to learn how to work with a small business and create a website that catered to their needs and the needs of prospective clients. This had to be the trickiest part of the project, but it has really helped me grow as a UX designer.
I gained more experience working directly for a client.
I learned more about responsive design.
I learned a lot about finding balance designing for a clients needs and for the users needs.
